I started the flute about a month ago, any tips?

Hello! That’s awesome! How are you liking it? One of my tips would be to have goals or conscious things you want to work on when you’re practicing. I know for years when I would practice, I would just try to play as many different things as possible in an hour or so, but really what will help is saying “okay, today I really want to focus on the high register” or “today I want to look at these measures in the piece.” It’s frustrating to really learn and improve when you overwhelm yourself, so it’s okay to sometimes keep it simple and focused in the beginning and even when you become an advanced player. Additionally, definitely start to focus on technique. You may already have a book, but if not, there are many out there with scales and little exercises that will teach you concepts and techniques that will be essential forever (I used the Rubank books). Of course, if you find that you really like flute and want to really work at it, take lessons. I’ve been playing flute for nine years, and I didn’t start lessons until about a year and a half ago, and I regret that I waited so long! I’ve gotten three times better in that short amount of time. Having a skilled teacher give you instruction will really change the way you play and they’re an ear to notice things that you might not if you’re always working on your own. I wish you the absolute best of luck with flute! It’s the greatest instrument (in my very biased opinion). If you ever have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask, and I hope I’ve been of help! :)

Your whole life is a solo.
But sometimes, it’s a duet.
Unless that person is a shit.
Then it’s a solo again.
